August 2012 – Birchbox #3

Birchbox is a subscription service that sends a goody box full of high-end samples and sometimes full-size products based on the profile you complete to make sure they suit your needs/wants! The subscription costs $10/monthwhich is pretty reasonable seeing as the box itself can contain items WELL over that amount (note – I received my 1 year subscription as a gift for being a loyal customer of Cafe Escapes so check them out and tell them @KimR5 sent you). They also have a nice rewards program, where for each survey you complete for the products that are sent you get 10 points and then every 100 points earns you $10 in Birchbox credits which you can redeem in their online store for full-sized products. One feature I ♥ about their website is that it details featured items you might see in your box, featured items for next month’s box you might see and the tracking number for each package. Extremely helpful – especially to ensure that you received everything that was hand selected for you by Birchbox. Currently they are only offering this for women but I saw a link on their site that shows beta testing for men which would be really interesting! July 2012 didn’t include any products I felt were worth mentioning so I opted out of creating a special blog post for it. BUT out of the 3 boxes I have received from Birchbox, the August 2012 is by far my favorite! Check it out:

Schick | Hydro Silk Razor – Thanks to this innovative new razor, we’ll be showing off our legs all season long. It has a water-activated moisturizing serum that moisturizes for up to two hours after shaving. Plus, the five blades have skin guards that follow the natural contours of your body to smooth skin and help prevent irritation. ($9.99)

  • First Impressions: I consider myself to be somewhat of a razor connoisseur and while this was not my very first experience with the Schick Hydro Silk Razor it most definitely will not be my last!  The moisturizing bar that surrounds the 5 blades protects your skin while shaving AND conditions your skin for up to 2 hours after you’re done shaving. I usually walk away needing at least one scrap of toilet paper to cover a knick but so far it’s been smooth (pun intended) sailing!

Comodynes | Self-Tanning Intensive – Who needs the sun when you can get a safe, buildable, and natural-looking tan with these bestselling European towelettes? (Pack of 8, $14.99)

  • First impressions: (this is the second time I’ve received it) This particular product could wind up being a blessing or a curse and seeing as it’s the work week I’ll have to give this a whirl when I don’t have to show my face (just in case) for a few days. The package notes that it will provide a deeper tan in about 3 hours but doesn’t mention how long the tan is slated to last.

Comodynes | Hydra-Tanning Face Moisturizing Summer Glow – Who needs the sun when you can get a safe, buildable, and natural-looking tan with this incredible product? (Tube, $20.98)

  • First impressions: I’m not hugely interested in products that bronze my face as I have extremely sensitive skin BUT this product is fairly decent. So far it has not clogged my pores and has given me more of a healthy glow as opposed to a solid looking tan.

Beauty Fixation | Makeup Remover – Powerful makeup remover completely erases stubborn mascara and liner but also aids in quick touch-ups. (Pack of 24, $5)

  • First impressions: I don’t have a personal need for this type of product but I forsee it working brilliantly for someone that does! The convenient, individually sealed sticks make taking/using them on the go a cinch!

Juicy Couture | Viva la Juicy La Fleur – A fresh update on the brand’s best-selling Viva La Juicy, the sheer perfume has the original’s fruity top notes combined with heady honeysuckle, gardenia, and jasmine. (2.5 oz  bottle, $70)

  • First impressions: It was ♥ at first spritz. I’ve never tested anything in the Juicy Couture line so I wasn’t sure what to expect but color me impressed! The delicate, sweet scent was not overpowering and didn’t give me a headache which isn’t uncommon for me when it comes to perfumes. I found myself having to reapply it once or twice through the day but a little bit goes a long way. I planning to buy it the next time I run out of perfume!

DDF | Brightening Cleanser – Why conceal complexion nuisances (sun/age spots, acne scars, erc) when you can just cleanse them away?  (250 ml bottle, $38)

  • First impressions: It feels like I went from having youthful, flawless skin to oversized pores and sun spots in one night!  If I had received this product as soon as last year I would have happily passed it along to someone that might actually get some use out of it but this year that person is me! I haven’t noticed a tremendous difference yet but I am learning to be patient. The cleanser itself is gentle and light. With my skin erring more of the side of dry I only use it once per day as instructed.

So there you have it, my 3rd Birchbox. I am already anxiously looking forward to what September’s box will bring! Remember, if you want to purchase a subscription use my link to join!
